Millers slip to defeat at Billericay

Onwubiko double sees off Aveley
Two goals from Emeka Onwubiko inflicted boss Lee Hodges’ first league defeat as Aveley boss.
It was a game which saw 10 players booked and loanee Harry Milton was given his marching orders for the visitors after 72 minutes for two bookable offences.
The Blues dominated possession from the off, though the pace of Abs Thompson and Evans Kouassi - one of seven former Billericay players in the Millers squad for the match – caused problems on the odd occasion for the hosts.
The latter went close for the Millers when he was put through by Paul Shave but his effort was wide of the mark.
Junior Luke fired an effort well wide from the edge of the box for the New Lodge hosts, but their pressure and domination of set-pieces eventually saw them break the deadlock.
After 34 minutes, Dave Collis’ deep free-kick into the box was flicked on by skipper Rob Swaine and Onwubiko found the finish to fire past Dave McCartney in the Aveley goal.
Collis went close himself from a set piece, and though his original effort was blocked by the wall, he fired the rebound just wide of the target.
Hodges changed things at the break by bringing on Ellis Remy to give the Millers a presence up front, alongside new signing David Knight.
And after winning a free-kick on the edge of the area, Aveley found the equaliser in the 51st minute.
Sean Bonnett-Johnson’s effort found its way through the wall and home custodian Dale Brightly couldn’t hold the effort and Knight reacted quickest to fire home from close range.
But set pieces proved to the be the visitors undoing once again as the hosts enjoyed another strong spell of pressure, and centre-back Cedric Ngakam missed a ball into the box but Jay May could only fire his effort high and wide of the goal.
And only two minutes later the table toppers were back in front when Junior Luke’s long throw, which had caused Aveley plenty of problems throughout the match was flicked on by Chris Wild and Onwubiko was on hand to finish.
Dave Collis’ free-kicks also caused havoc for the Millers defence and on two or three occasions Billericay could have extended their lead, with Richard Halle’s header well saved by McCartney, before the same player fired wide when well placed from Luke’s pull back.
Milton then got his marching orders for his second yellow, a clumsy tackle on Luke, and that ultimately ended any hopes of victory for the Millers.
Late on home substitute Neil Cousins saw a header strike the frame of crossbar and post, but they had done enough to secure the win.
