On a day when their relegation was confirmed, the Millers defence held firm against play-off chasing Lewes.
Aveley rarely troubled the visitors throughout the match and goalkeeper Dave McCartney had to be on top form to keep out visiting skipper Steve Robinson’s header in a dull opening period.
The game did improve after the break and Jason Fox had to clear off the line for the hosts as Lewes upped their game.
The introduction of Ben Billings certainly proved a wise move for the visitors as he firstly blazed a header wide and then McCartney tipped over a deflected Ian Draycott shot.
And the visitors had penalty appeals waved away by the referee when Billings fell to the ground after a challenge from Fox in the area.
Aveley’s only chance of the match came when substitute Kayan Kalipha saw a shot deflected behind for a corner, while at the other end Lewes found McCartney in fine form.
Harry Harding saw a shot blocked before the rebound fell kindly to Nathan Crabb but the home keeper pulled off a fine save.
McCartney was again called into action to deny Paul Booth after his sweetly struck shot from Simon Wormull’s free-kick appeared to be goalbound.
And with three minutes to go Wormull volleyed goalwards but the effort was straight at the home keeper as both sides had to settle for a point.
