Two second-half goals helped the Millers to our first victory away at Bury Town on our tenth attempt.

Before this game the Millers had a torrid record away at Ram Meadow, after 7 losses and 2 draws in 9 attempts, however, it proved to be tenth time lucky after goals from Andy Freeman and Tom Richardson in the second half which helped to clinch all three points.

It was a slow start to the game for both sides and there wasn't much really to report after 25 minutes into the game. Bury Town had a couple of headers from corners drift well wide of David Hughes' goal and a bad tackle from Tommy Hughes on Sam Mvemba was awarded with a yellow.

The Millers started to get the ball down and play after a scrappy start to the match, Andy Freeman slipped in Alex Akrofi who curled past the keeper into the bottom left-hand corner, but it was ruled out by a late flag.

The host's stand-out performer was Jake Chambers-Shaw and he was unlucky with a couple of attempts in the first half when both efforts hit the Millers wall and we were able to clear the ball away.

We started to play the way that we can, and after a neat passage of play it ended up to Jason Raad who curled his effort from the edge of the area towards goal, but it was comfortably saved by the keeper.

Jason Raad was soon after involved again, he played in Tom Richardson after winning the ball back in the middle of the pitch, Tom had to take his shot early after being closed down and could only find the keeper again who made the save.

Half Time | Bury Town 0-0 Aveley.

Before this game, the previous four encounters saw only two goals in total, so it wasn't to be totally unexpected that not many goals would be scored in this match.

We started the second half strongly, Andy Freeman ran at the fullback, only to see his cross miss both Alex Akrofi and Tom Richardson in the box, which was very close for us to take the lead. The Millers kept going and after Tom Richardson was fouled on the edge of the area, Jason Raad stepped up and he saw his curled free-kick go perfectly over the wall, beat the keeper but just go wide of the right-hand post.

On the 65th minute the game came to life, the ball ended up to Andy Freeman in the Bury penalty area, the ball didn't look like it would come down for Freeman, he got his shot off, and just enough power as the ball went through the goalkeeper and into the back of the net to score the Millers first goal away at Bury Town since August 2015. Bury Town 0-1 Aveley.

A minute after the goal Freddie Gard got the ball just outside the area and went for goal but he saw his effort just go wide of the keepers' left-hand post.

We didn't have to wait long for a second goal and it came on the 70th minute. Sam Cross took a free-kick on the edge of the area, it took a deflection off of the wall, it landed to Tom Richardson who applied a finish to score his 12th of the season and Aveley's second of the game. Bury Town 0-2 Aveley.

All involved would've liked to have seen the game out, but the Millers like to make games interested as the hosts' chucked everything at us. From a corner kick, the ball wasn't fully cleared, it landed to Jake Chambers-Shaw who met the ball with a volley and found the bottom right-hand corner. Bury Town 1-2 Aveley.

The Millers were then reduced to ten men with Alex Akrofi show a straight red card off the ball. Six minutes were then added on time to add to the drama, after stoppages, six substitutions, six minutes could've been justified. In the 90+5th minute, James Love was then shown a second yellow card and a red card after two bookable defences, which meant we had to hold on with nine men. Bury Town had one last chance for a free-kick which was for some reason blasted over the crossbar rather than putting it in the box, and the Millers managed to hold on for a precious three points.
