First Win Of The Season

Aveley Football Club

Millers scored four away at Romford to record our first victory of the season.

On bank holiday Monday we went in search of our first victory of the season away at Romford, who know play at Brentwood Town's Brentwood Arena.Last season away to Romford the Millers slipped to a 2-0 defeat so needed to be on top form to make sure we didn't have a repeat of that scoreline. Making his debut for the club we had Alex Read who has joined us from National South side Tonbridge Angels.

The hosts started the game better and had a couple of half chances, from their first corner of the game they almost socred as the ball went an inch over the central defender, Louis Hiobi's head. Moments after that half chances, a long range free-kick taken by Philip Brown-Bampoe was on target but comfortably saved by David Hughes.

We grew into the game and on 16 minutes had a chance after great hold up play from Alex Read, who fed Wyan Reid who saw his angled cross destined for Aaron Condon at the back post cleared away.

We didn't have to wait long for the first goal of the game as just before 20 minutes, Alex Read marked his second debut for the club with a goal. A lovely cross from Aaron Condon was met by the left boot of Alex Read who found the bottom right hand corner of the goal to put us ahead. Romford 0-1 Aveley.

Just after the half hour mark the provider for our first turned goalscorer for our second. A brilliant cross from Jake Pitty and a glancing flick off the forehead of Condon helped guide the ball into the goal and past Jack Riddell in the boro goal to give us a two goal buffer. Romford 0-2 Aveley.

A minute after our second, we bagged our third. A brilliant ball over the top of the defence from Aaron Condon found James Love who controlled the ball and fired it superbly into the bottom corner. Romford 0-3 Aveley.

One of the downsides of the match came as Sam Mvemba was taken off after a coming together which saw his head hit and making him concussed, thankfully he was assessed by a quick medical responce and was in training the following Thursday.

Half Time | Romford 0-3 Aveley.

We started the second half well and with a chance, James Love was in search of his second goal of the game as he tried to curl one into the top right hand corner of the goal on his left foot, but he was denied by a smart Jack Riddell save.

Five minutes into the second half and the hosts pulled a goal back. A penalty after contact was made in the box sent Jaydon Charles down. David Hughes superbly got down low to his right to save the initial penalty but he couldn't do anything about the rebound as Kieron Owusu followed up the quickest and put it into the goal. Romford 1-3 Aveley.

Romford continued to probe but Hiobi headed over the crossbar, Jaydon Charles also had a headed attempt but this time it hit the crossbar and it was cleared away by the Millers.

We could've had a penalty ourselves, but in consecutive games we were denied after James Love had his legs taken from him, looked a certain penalty, but it wasn't meant to be.

With ten minutes left, we officially sealed all three points. Sam Cross delivered into the box and it was met by James Love who looped his header over the keeper and into the back of the net. Romford 1-4 Aveley.
