Millers hit for six by league leaders Billericay

Abysmal second half showing sees Aveley slip to embarrassing defeat.

A second half to forget for Aveley saw them slip to a humiliating 6-0 defeat at the hands of league leaders Billericay Town in front of a healthy crowd of 306 on Monday night.
For the first 40 minutes or so there appeared to be little separating the two sides with the Millers frustrating Craig Edwards’ visitors.
But the early signs were there when Jay May beat the offside trap after four minutes and he was only denied the opener by a fine save from Lamar Johnson.
Johnson was again on hand to deny Blues skipper Rob Swaine from one of numerous pin point dead balls from Dave Collis.
On the half hour mark there was confusion in the home defensive ranks, and May almost profited with keeper Johnson out of his area.
But fortunately skipper Sam Holloway got back on the line to head May’s shot over the crossbar.
AJ Olatunbosun was adjudged to have brought down May in the box and Glenn Poole stroked his spot-kick past the home stopper.
Billericay doubled their lead directly from the restart when Paul Shave — a former Billericay man — gifted May possession and the striker ran through to coolly slot home.
The second half was only two minutes old when Collis picked out Chris Wild with a free-kick from wide on the left to glance a header into the far corner of the net.
But the Millers held out until the 78th minute before conceding a fourth when Alfred Kamara gave away the ball cheaply to Harrison Chatting on the right, who drew Johnson out of goal and fed May to slot home.
It was almost worse when Johnson fluffed a clearance — in similar fashion to Peter Encklemann for Aston Villa a few years back against near neighbours Birmingham City — but he just managed to get back to save the effort on the line
May completed his hat-trick eight minutes later when the ball fell to him in a crowded box and he smashed into the roof of the net, after Johnson had made a good save
And Poole rubbed salt into Aveley wounds in the last minute of normal time when another goalmouth scramble saw the ball fall at his feet to tap in at the near post.
