Aveley 0 Margate 3

AVELEY slumped to their first defeat of the season as they were comfortable beaten by Margate.
The Millers never got going and Margate took full advantage of the poor showing.
In an unchanged side from the team that comprehensively beat Kingstonian, Aveley started promisingly as Mitch Hahn’s effort just went over the bar.
But that was as good as it got for the hosts as Margate took the lead from a cleverly worked free kick, Lloyd Blackman reacted quickest and shot low past Lunan from a tight angle.
Margate continued to dominate and went into the break with a two goal lead, when Blackman weaved his way past several defenders before and stroked the ball past Lunan with the aid of a deflection from Michael Alaile.
But it could have got even worse for the home team as Aaron Lacy’s in swinging corner found former Grays defender Ben Lewis unmarked but the emphatic header just went past the far post.
Things did not get any better for the hosts after the break, and had to cope with the loss of first half sub Garry Skerritt with what looked like a serious injury.
Blackman could have added to his earlier strike after an excellent through ball from Billy Dunn found him unmarked but with the goal gaping he scuffed his shot wide.
The closes the Millers came to getting a way back into the match when Matt Johnson’s delivery from the right found Junior Dadson at the back post but he was unable to get decent contact on the ball before keeper Paul Nicholls was able to gather.
With little over a quarter of an hour to go Margate made the points safe when a Wayne Wilson long range effort beat Lunan.
Wilson against went close minutes later with a similar effort but this time Lunan was able to gather.

Aveley will face their strongest test of the season when they host Carshalton Athletic at Mill Field on Saturday (3pm)
