A healthy Mill Field crowd saw Wealdstone first out of the blocks, but they were quite rightly denied twice in the opening 20 minutes by the flag of the observant Assistant Referee.

Millers, who gradually came into the game went close when Sherwin Stanley glanced a Ryan Doyle cross.

Wealdstone took a deserved lead on 29 minutes when Allan Massey headed home from a Marvin McCoy free kick. Millers equalised on the stroke of half time when leading scorer Martin Tuohy shrugged off his marker, finding space in the area and stroking home from 10 yards.

The second period was a more even affair, with the pace of the game a little slower. It took a great solo run from full back McCoy, from just inside his half, finishing with aplomb giving Millers custodian Jamie Lunan no chance.

Aveley’s attempts to get back into the game were dealt with competently as a series of balls into the box were cleared by Massey, and his fellow defenders.

With Wealdstone failing to close out the match, and the game in the dying embers of added time, Doyle produced a far post cross to Stanley, and his lay off into the 6 yard box was scrambled home by Tuohy to the delight of the home supporters and the despair of the travelling.
