The Millers opened the scoring in the forth minute when Mitch Hahn placed a shot inside the left hand post from 25 yards.

Martin Tuohy then had two opportunities to increase Aveley’s lead but missed the target on both occasions.

On the quarter – hour mark Ryan Edgar struck a free kick from all of forty yards. The midfielder’s effort just clearing the bar.

Steve Sargent had the first clear chance for Horsham in the 22nd minute, his strike from the edge of the box going over the bar. Seven minutes later Pat Harding put Horsham level when he was given room in the box. Harding turned and struck the ball well from close range, Oliver Morris-Sanders pushed it onto the post but the ball rebounded and went in off the keeper.

The Aveley keeper was in action again a short while later when he turned an angled shot from Alex Haddow away for a corner.

Tuohy scored what turned out to be the winner for The Millers in the 37th minute. Sherwin Stanley shot and Craig Bradshaw’s save fell kindly for the Aveley striker who made no mistake from 12 yards.
Soon after this Edgar tried his luck from outside the box but saw his shot clear the bar.

On the stroke of half-time Junior Dadson had a golden opportunity when he broke clear of the Horsham defence but Bradshaw save well.

Early in the second half a Nicky Symons shot went wide of the right-hand post from 25 yards.

Aveley’s Ryan Doyle got in on the action ten minutes into the second half when he cut in from the right, his left foot shot was headed away for a corner.

Five minutes later Harding shot straight at the home keeper from the edge of the box. Another chance for the visitors as Claude Selena struck a shot over the bar shortly after.

Tuohy was then back in the action, shooting straight at Bradshaw from well outside the area. Tuohy then played a one-two with Che Stadhart but the former’s shot was wide of the target.

With ten minutes remaining Che Stadhart got on the end of a Dadson cross but the substitute’s effort went wide of the far post.

All in all Aveley will be pleased with their performance against a strong Horsham team.
