AVELEY comprehensively beat a below par Boreham Wood side to move themselves up to sixth position.
Steve Butterworth broke the deadlock after 41 minutes before Ryan Edgar made the points safe just after the hour.
The home side started brightly and Edgar’s glancing header fell just wide of the target.
The Millers were awarded a penalty after 34 minutes when Dewayne Clarke brought down skipper Ryan Doyle in the box, but they failed to take advantage as Doyle’s spot kick crashed back off the bar.
But Wood were reduced to ten men after 36 minutes after striker Jamie Richards lashed out at debutant Adam Bailey-Dennis on the floor and referee Elliott Kaye had no choice but to send Richards off.
And it didn’t take long for Aveley to press home the advantage when Sam Holloway’s perfect cross found Butterworth and his glancing header went low into the bottom corner of the net for his second in as many games.
Edgar should have made it two before the half was out when Butterworth’s mazy run found him unmarked with the simplest of tasks but to their credit the Wood defence managed to block his effort and clear.
The second half started off slowly but the home side doubled their lead after 61 minutes when Matt Johnson’s delivery found Edgar who had the simple task of tapping in from close range.
The Millers continued in their dominance and Stanley could have put the result beyond any doubt when he was through on goal but instead of passing to the unmarked Johnson he decided to shoot and the effort was blocked.
Aveley had a chance to make it three late on when substitute Martin Tuohy fluffed his shot wide after being set up by Johnson.
Wood’s day was summed up in the dying minutes when sub Lee Allinson should have converted from close range but he miscued his shot and the rebound from Clarke was off target.
