Aveley and Potters Bar are some of the highest ranked teams currently in the Emirates FA Cup with the sides sitting second and first respectively in the Isthmian Premier League.
With only goal difference separating these two sides, the game followed that pattern with a really even game at Parkside.
Aveley keeper David Hughes was the busier of the two goalkeepers in the first half, first denying Kasim Aido and then an unbelievable save to deny Bar Army forward Lewis Manor.
The second half was much more lively with Lewis Manor denied again for the visitors.
Aveley had a couple of half chances with Jon Nzengo’s effort on goal well blocked.
The opener came on the 64th minute, Lewis Manor scored it as he connected with a flick on in the box and found the back of the net.
The visitors looked like they would progress into the second qualifying round, but Millers forward George Sykes headed home from close range two minutes from time.
Four minutes was added on at the end of the game, and one minute in, Potters Bar’s Joe Boachie went down injured with a serious head injury and the game was abandoned 15 minutes later. We wish him all the best and a speedy recovery.
We will now travel to the Lantern Stadium to take on Potters Bar Town in a replay, 7.45PM Kick Off.
