Millers bow out of the FA Cup

Aveley Football Club11 Oct 2015 - 20:26

On a day that it just wasn’t meant to be the Miller have been knocked out of the FA Cup in the 3rd Qualifying Round by Havant & Waterlooville.

The visitors started the brightest, pacey winger Azeez breezed past Ahmed Deen, whipped the cross into the box but it was headed away well by Spencer Harrison, who was a rock at the centre of the Aveley defence all afternoon.

Matt Paterson was next to get in behind, a ball over the top from Donnelly fell to Paterson one on one with James Marrable, but the ex-Southend and Southampton man chipped over the bar.

The Millers began to grow into the match and a ball in from Abs Seymour to the back post was meant with a spectacular effort from Liam Nash as he overhead kicked it just past the post.

The deadlock was finally broken 30 minute into the match, and really it was a very poor goal to concede. Marvin Morgan was allowed to turn onto his left foot and pass it past James Marrable into the bottom corner from 18 yards out. Aveley 0-1 Havant & Waterlooville.

Just before the break the Millers came within a whisker of equalising, a ball in from Nash was met by Peagram and his improvised back heal just went wide of the target.

Half Time- Aveley 0-1 Havant & Waterlooville.

The visitors came out firing in the second half, comical defending down our left hand side allowed Azeez the chance to cross the ball into the box, it fell to Donnelly and Spencer Harrison was again on hand to brilliantly block his effort.

Moments later both Marvin Morgan and Matt Paterson missed sitters from inside the 18 yard box when it was easier to score past James Marrable.

On the 60th minute of the match both Ahmed Deen and Lee Prescott went off and were replaced by Petrit Elbi and Arian Retkoceri.

Only seconds later Elbi fizzed a shot over the crossbar to fire a warning to the visitors. It seemed the lift the Millers as they started to get involved in the match and really got a hold over it.

Elbi was close again, lovely interchange between him and David Fallah set up a chance for Petrit Elbi but he nodded wide of the target.

The Millers were again denied a certain goal after a fine save from Young after Liam Nash fired a right footed shot low and hard into the bottom corner. Seconds later the Miller had a penalty turned down, David Fallah was too honest and stayed on his feet as Montero hacked away at his legs from behind.

After those chances Havant & Waterlooville dictating the match, substitute Ben Swallow cut onto his left foot and curled a nice shot just over the crossbar.

As the Millers surged forwards to find that goa, they were caught on the counter attack and Ben Swallow won a corner. From that resulting corner, Havant doubled their lead. A ball whipped into the front post was headed in past the man of the line to book the Hawks place into the next round of the FA Cup.

Full Time- Aveley 0-2 Havant & Waterlooville.
