The Millers have been handed tough draws in the FA Trophy but after some of the best performances in recent times for Aveley have helped us through to the First Round Proper, for the first time ever. A 5-0 victory away at East Grinstead, 3-0 victory over Bowers & Pitsea, 3-3 draw away at Taunton followed by a 2-1 replay win and now a commanding and fully deserved 4-1 victory over Biggleswade Town has us in the First Round Proper.
It was a strong start from The Waders as a couple of free-kicks caused some danger but a simple save for David Hughes from another long ranged free-kick was as much as the hosts could muster on target in the first half. They got the ball out wide and caused problems but crosses were cleared by Jack Mochalski and Harry Gibbs and Connor Witherspoon swept up possession and loose ball infront of the defence.
Just after ten minutes, The Millers were the team that should've been ahead. A corner from Jason Raad was met by a thunderous Harry Gibbs head which he angled towards the goal, but for a brilliant reaction save from the Biggleswade keeper the Millers would've led, but it remained goaless.
Five minutes later we had another chance. Good pass from Alex Akrofi over to Wyan Reid on the right hand side, but Wyan was denied by the keeper at the second attempt.
Thirty minutes into the game and we took the lead. Jason Raad attempted through ball was blocked, George Sykes picked up the loose ball and played it through to Alex Akrofi who slid the ball past the keeper with his left foot into the bottom left hand corner of The Waders goal. Biggleswade Town 0-1 Aveley.
A minute after we took the lead, the hosts should've been down to ten men. Alex Akrofi was chasing the ball over the top but for Ferrell being last man and pulling down Alex Akrofi but was only a yellow card.
We almost doubled our lead on the 36th minute, somehow the hosts cleared three efforts off the line, first from Alex Akrofi, then George Sykes, the ball ended up with Wyan Reid who cleared the crossbar.
Into first half added on time and we doubled our lead. George Sykes again did brilliantly, went down the left hand side and centred to Alex Akrofi who tapped into the net. Biggleswade Town 0-2 Aveley.
Half Time | Biggleswade Town 0-2 Aveley.
We started off the second half as well as we ended the first half. Goerge Sykes twisted and turned and fired towards goal, but the keeper made a comfortable save. Wyan Reid then had a clear opportunity but the keeper raced off his line to narrow the angle and denied an effort from Wyan to keep it only at 2-0.
We weren't to be denied for very long as we made it 3-0 just after the hour mark. Shad Ngandu was tenacious and won the ball back well and played it out wide to Jason Raad, Raad crossed into the box, the keeper spilled it, Alex Akrofi then had a shot blocked, it came to George Sykes who slammed it home. Biggleswade Town 0-3 Aveley.
Despite scoring three, we looked for another goal, Jason Raad worked the space well down the left hand side crossed into the box, the cross was met by the head of Alex Akrofi but his looped header was just over the bar.
