Goodey signed at the beginning of October 2019 and put his stamp in central midfield as the enforcer we needed in the centre of the park, picking up seven yellow cards in 16 appearances. The midfielder would've played more but got injured a couple of weeks into his time with us which put him out for over a month.

James Goode started his career under Mark Stimson at Thurrock, playing 113 times and scoring 20 times. With his time at Thurrock, he proved himself to be a utility player, suited to playing in midfield and in defence at full-back and centrally.

After Thurrock folded, Stimson and a large part of the Thurrock squad moved with him to Waltham abbey as did James Goode, making 15 appearances for the Abbots. And after the opening at Hornchurch due to the departure of Jim McFarlane, James Goode followed Stimmo to Bridge Avenue in December 2018, helping the Urchins stay up in the Isthmian Premier League.
