Ralphie has his say...

Chairman’s blog - week 23

How do you keep a rugby player in suspense?

This Saturdays 1st XV fixture against Coney Hill will be their first HOME one in 5 weeks! It’s been a long January and I’m pretty sure the lads will be eager to get back on home turf to try and gain important league points. There is also a good chance we might see some home grown lads making their Avonmouth debuts this week …. But I am sure all who pull on the jersey will be up for this game as will Coney Hill!

Then next Friday night The 1st XV travel to Gordano for the battle of the bridge part deux … a perfect opportunity to take your other half out for a romantic evening drinking Avonmouth Champagne while watching an epic battle …. Get the date in your diary!!

The 2s and 3s games were called off last weekend as both oppositions couldn’t raise a side … this is happening a lot and unfortunately it’s something that we have had to do ourselves this season! It becomes very frustrating for the people who spend all week rallying the troops and twisting arms to then have games cancelled but we must battle on …. The 2s and 3s don’t have a planned game this weekend but we are hoping to get something organised …. Keep an eye out on social media for updates.

The U17s won their game last Friday night against Broad Plain as the lads continue to put pressure on the teams above them in their league. More of the lads are looking to play for the seniors with the older ones making an impact already and integrating well in to ….. the Lifeboat!!!!

Ladies day was a fantastic success with all who attended looking absolutely fabulous. Deb Britton’s hard work made for another spectacular occasion as the day turned in to night with Natt Davies doing a marvellous job entertaining them … thank you everyone.

Well done to all the U15 girls who went to the county trials, it’s great to see so many representing Avonmouth and I have been told you did not just do the club proud but yourselves as well … fingers crossed some of you get through.

The ladies XV are at home to Dursley on Sunday afternoon, please make every effort to support as they look to stay in 3rd place.

This Saturday there will be a half time collection in aid of Kev ‘Slim’ Martin’s wife who passed away suddenly last week. Our heartfelt condolences go to our ex-player and his family at this sad time.

Have a safe weekend in whatever you do … hopefully see some of you about the place!

George Ralph …. Club Chairman
