Chairman’s blog - week 27

What a lovely day … although, I’m sure we haven’t seen the last of the rain and seeing the last 2 months have been wetter than an otter’s pocket it’s gonna be a miracle if all the games that are scheduled for us are on this weekend!!

1 game has been cancelled as I write this … the 3s game at North Bristol has been called off as the opposition couldn’t raise a side.

The 1st XV travel to Midsomer Norton to continue their quest for second place, last week’s home game against Matson was called off which means there are a few alterations to the fixture list! But we head in to this game with plenty to aim for … 5th on 67 points with games in hand on 2nd, 3rd and 4th …. are we controlled enough to do this?

Then this week the 1st XV play at home on THURSDAY evening (12th March) against Chipping Sodbury … at Hornets RFC (on the 4G) lets have a big crowd for this please.

The 2s were our only team to play last Saturday, they travelled to Matson and came away in second place 27-10. A tricky place to go in normal conditions and the young side that went put in a fine performance in what can sometimes be hostile conditions! This week they continue in the league at HOME against Drybrook … if you can’t travel to watch the 1s get down to this fixture.

The minis and juniors all have fixtures this week but pitch inspections will be carried out if the weather predictions are correct! Hopefully they will get a game as they haven’t played in about a month!!

Good luck to everyone attending the fund raising junior curry and quiz night at the club later!

The Ladies got a game last week, they played away at Gordano at ’the graveyard’ with the hosts winning 31-19. The ladies put in a stellar performance after not playing since the end of February! This week they welcome Dursley Ladies to Barracks Lane and a big crowd would be great as they look to get back to winning ways.

The ladies play again at home next FRIDAY 13th March against Old B’s … another date for the diary.

Unfortunately there are still annual subs outstanding for players and social members!

Senior tour is May 15th – 17th and places are still available so please get your £20 deposit in ASAP.

The veterans lunch is booked for 21st March when the 1st XV have Old B’s at home, get your names to Orlando Simpkins ASAP.

I’m sure you’re all keeping tabs on the Coronavirus situation so continue to read the GOV website for the facts, updates and advice on prevention.

Have a safe weekend in whatever you do … hopefully see some of you about the place!
