Match Report - Gordano Vet's
By Mark Kelleher
Mighty 3's win to wrap up for Xmas!!
3rd XV captains blog ... week 16 ... a local derby
This week's friendly saw us welcome Gordano to Barracks lane for the last game before Christmas. We had to improvise in certain areas, mainly the referee as he was a no show but we managed to rustle up a couple of volunteers who regularly ref at a certain standard ... even if it is the under 9s and 10s!!
Gordano ran in a converted try from the kick off but our heads didn't drop and even when Gordano scored another unconverted try the boys still kept battling and attacking the opposition. The game was an interesting affair due to both refs inexperience but each team got on with it and used the advantage well.
Avonmouth scored 3 tries in total with 1 converted by Jack Hembrough which takes his tally to 18 this season. Liam McGivern scored in the first half and claimed his first 3rd team try, Liam is trying his best to be a 3rd team player but his 2nd team performances and his perfect training record means he can only play when the 2s game is called off!! And the 2s game was called off this week due to unavailabilities and other commitments so we chose a large 3rd team squad instead, which turned out to be a good thing as we struggled to fill the required positions when players couldn't make the game. However, we did put a side out and again we dug deep to get the win. Bryn Hulbert put another top performance in with his tackling and ball carrying standing out in the forwards, we have uncovered a little gem and he improves week on week. He would of taken man of the match for a second week but we had to give this to Viktor Farkas who had his best game in Avonmouth colours. Viktor again put his body on the line in every tackle he attempted and looked to receive the ball at every opportunity, it won't be long until he scores hi first ever try, nice work Victor, keep up the hard work mate.
Avonmouths 2nd try was a first for this player as he raced onto a charged down kick to beat the opposition fullback to touch down the first of his senior carer and Bryn enjoyed a nice drink after the game to celebrate both this and his debut game from the other week. The 3rd try was scored by Iain Long and this takes him to joint top (playing) try scorer after good work by replacement scrum half Lee Durbin, who came back on after Being injured by our one man wrecking ball Dave Belfield who was literally in everyone's faces for the entire match.
The overall player usage for the 3s since the first game of the season now stands at 85, this is down to Chris Jeanes, Ben Waterman and Jake Brooker making their debuts for the season, they are regular 2nd teamers but pulled on the red n black for the 3s. I say it every week but it's great to have such a number over the 15 games and we are the only side to play every week so far, it's a shame the 2s couldn't raise a side and we need to pull together in 2016 to make sure we field 3 regular sides.
The next game is Jan 2nd away to Frampton in the league, please make yourself available as a win will keep us at the top. We do finish 2015 leading the pack and I'm sure it's a position you're all proud of the same as Jerry and myself.
Thank you everyone
