With Colerne currently in the second promotion spot, Avonvale needed a victory to keep up the pressure but fell to a 36-8 defeat at the Wiltshire club.
As usual, the home side relied almost whole-heartedly on their weight advantage in the forwards and opened the scoring from a push over try before dominating the rest of the first period.
Vale came back after the break and a Joe Vowles penalty got them off the mark before an enterprising try for wing Tom Hendy gave them hope. Centre Steve Grant took the credit for making the try, his pace too much for his opposite number and a well timed pass gave his fellow three-quarters room on the outside.
Colerne returned to their forward play and eventually ground the visitors down, another short scrum proving decisive in ensuring the visitors' heads were down.
With the slide down the table continuing both coaches called for more commitment from the side, noting that lack of attendees and several of the squad committed to coaching junior rugby at the club had meant that training sessions have not been held for some weeks.
