What was traditionally a win for vale against Old Reds, was a different story on Sunday

Last season vale u11's beat Old Reds 11-1, yesterday we lost to a very determined Old Reds team that were determined to win by 8 tries to 4. We only had 11 players at hand and lost one of our key players Olly M in the first 5 minutes to injury, which meant we had to 'loan' some of the Red's players which never really works in the favor of the team doing the borrowing. The game was played in two 20 minute halves where first half was a draw at 2 tries a piece. In the second half, the Red's came back at us hard and the game was played at a furious pace with some very physical tackles going in.
Although there was obvious disappointment by the team at losing, a huge amount of positives can be taken from this fixture, mainly this game was a great advert for youth rugby which had everything in it, superb handling skills, brilliant offloads and determined defense. There was a brilliant try scored by Tom B which involved two tackle offloads through Toby B and Sam B along the touch line and into the corner and a great individual full pitch try by David T and Luke G.
At the end of the match, everyone on the pitch gave 110% effort and the lads knew they had been in a real game, and no doubt there will be some sore limbs today.
Importantly though, it is important to remember that a team can still play their best game and end up losing, but accept that as this was an all round superb fixture to build on, and we were proud to witness it.
Congratulations to Jamie P for winning the 'Most Explosive Player' for being everywhere on the pitch, tackling and offloading like a mini pro!
