This Easter Weekend saw The Ath play Leicestershire Fire Service in a charity match to raise funds for our chosen charity, the Leicestershire Autistic Society. £835 was raised via match subs, a raffle, donations via collection pots, and a top up by wonderful The Old Horse.
The game itself was a game of two halves. The half where the Fire Service was assisted by a number of Birstall 1s players went the way of the Brigade, and in the 2nd half, with more yellow socks in the Brigade line-up than green and white ones, the honours were even with the score for the half ending 12-12.
Shenanigans followed in The Old Horse post game and the boat race was a carbon copy of the 2nd half. i.e. the lead changed hands several times during the event and in the end it was a draw. I think it's fair to say "TVs" Edd Rogers won the raffle though - how can one man have 3 (yes THREE) winning tickets??
Another great event for the Ath Centenary Year. President's Cup Final next week, then Fat Boy 7s and the Centenary Dinner the week after. Plenty of fun for everyone. H Z B !!!
