The Ath kicked off and immediately forced the turnover, a constant theme of the afternoon. The Ath used the forwards well all afternoon before shipping it wide to the backs to cause havoc. Our first try, scored by Joe punching holes straight through the middle came within 10 minutes.
The Ath scored soon after after a great blindside break by Harry Cooper popping off the deck to let Jack W crash over. The Ath continued to apply pressure and were rewarded with the third try from a great chip from G off the back of a ruck to put Harry Cooper in the corner, excellent finish with the forehead.
Our last try came just before half time with more excellent forward work before G hitting a diagonal crash ball back inside crashed down for his first.
22-0 half time
Newts regrouped at halftime and applied pressure to the Ath try line for an extended period of time. Excellent defence and communication from the Ath saw Newts leave without a score.
The Ath scored again through good hands from the forwards before a quick break down the blind saw Tom Clegg go over after beating two men.
The Ath’s last and final try came from a great pick and go from G from a scrum on the Newts 5 to best two men and score. Final score 34-0, this should put us top for Christmas but with a lot of the season still to go the job is far from done. Our next league game is Stoneygate at home, second weekend in January for what is shaping up as a must win game. Lets keep the momentum going!
