Dear All,
Thank you for your continued support. November was a trying month, with fixtures cancelled, and tough results, but a positive outcome in the 2nd XV making their first game since the Covid years. Full detail below
Senior Rugby:
The seniors have had a rough month, with both top two teams in the league to face, they put up a real fight in games against Belper and Tupton. Belper away was a close game for the Mannerians, a high scoring affair, each team dealing significant blows, but the match sadly ended 36-40 to Belper.
We had a game scheduled against Rolls-Royce, however due to unavailability for a range of reasons. We sadly couldn't put a team out. ,meaning the st XV were docked 5 points for a Home WalkOver. If you know of anyone who would like to play rugby in the Bakewell area, please let us know- we need as many players as we can get!
Finally Tupton at home. In complete contrast to the previous week, we were able to put two teams out, meaning the first time that both a first and second team game was able to take place at Shutts Lane at the same time. The first XV had a real battle, and missed two penalty kicks at the death that could've got them the win, but ultimately it ended 8-10 to Tupton. The second XV game saw Rob Lea, Henry Bagshawe and Tom Spencer come out of retirement- many thanks to them, and the others that came to turn out. Another close game, Mannerians succumbed to a 12-17 loss. The echo from the team was that if the fixture had lasted a few more minutes, they could've come to a win, but alas, it was not meant to be.
Mannerians sit fourth in the table at the moment, and will hope to climb to third by Christmas, meaning they'd be in with a chance of qualifying for the Road to Twickenham in the Papa John's Cup later on in the season.
Looking forward, we have two fixtures in stone this month, and are hoping to have a 2nd XV game on the 21st. Boxing Day is due to be held, with a c.12PM KO. Reminder that in month of December, the fixture KO time has moved to 2:15PM:

Minis Rugby:
Again, the minis faced frustration this month, with their fixture being cancelled. The minis are moving from strength to strength, and if you know of any local children that may be interested, please let them know that training is 10am-11am on Saturday mornings. In addition, if there are any old members currently operating at different clubs, please be in touch if you can offer Minis and Juniors fixtures- we would love to have some more.
Tour:
I'll continue mentioning this to see if we gain any further interest. We're planning a tour, late Bank Holiday weekend (23rd–26th May) to Bangor, where we’ll be playing against a North Wales Barbarians team. If you're interested in joining, please fill out this form: Bakewell Mannerians Tour 2025 (google.com). The more information we gather early on, the easier it will be to plan the trip, we've not had many responses yet, and it would be great to hear more from supporters that would like to join.
Thank you for reading through all of this! We look forward to seeing you at the upcoming games and appreciate your continued support of Bakewell Mannerians.
Yours in rugby,
Edward Farmilo
