Jamie Milligan admitted that the win was more important than the performance as Brig defeated Buxton 2-1 at the Sir Tom Finney Stadium.

Brig took the early lead early on in proceedings as Richie Allen tapped home at the back post, before Danny Roccia was called into action to make a number of crucial saves.

Nico De Girolamo equalised for the visitors on the stroke of half time, before Sheldon Green won it for Brig late on.

Speaking after the game, Milligan said: "I said to them before the game that no matter what, we have to win this game to give us that little bit of breathing space between us and them.

"It wasn't a particularly good performance but at this stage of the season, the win is more important than the performance so I'll take that.

"The first 5 to 10 minutes we started off brilliantly - we passed the ball quickly, we switched it quickly because they were playing narrow first half, and then just after that we just got
a bit complacent and stopped doing what we were doing and they got back into it."

A vital component to the win was Roccia, the Brig 'keeper having started every game since Milligan took over.

And the Brig boss was full of praise for the Brig number one.

"He made some great saves, three or four good saves," he said.

"I said it to him at the start that I'll give you a chance no matter what, because he was in and out of the team before I got here.

"I said "Listen, I know you and I'll give you a chance."

"To be fair to him, he's getting better and better and more confident, and he made some brilliant saves today."

Milligan also reserved praise for the winning goalscorer Green, who scored his second league goal since joining Brig on loan from AFC Fylde last month.

He said: "Sheldon's a threat, we just need to get the ball to him quicker so he's higher up the pitch and one on one against the full back.

"We haven't done that I think the injuries haven't been helping us get the ball him quickly like we did at the start.

"He's a constant threat and he's a great lad, he wants to get better and he wants to learn.

"I hope I can help him do that."
