George Thomason, on loan from Wanderers, started in the centre of midfield, and Macauley Wilson filled in at centre back with captain Matt Lawlor not involved.

The match was played at a good tempo throughout the opening exchanges, Nathan Delfouneso sending the ball over the bar from six yards for the visitors.

Eoin Doyle then jinxed through the Brig defence before miscuing his subsequent effort wide of the post, before Danny Roccia pulled off a great save to his right to deny the Irishman from close range.

Delfouneso opened the scoring for the visitors on 31 minutes, finishing low into the corner past Roccia.

Danny Wisdom was then played through on goal for Brig, but the pass had just too much on it for the number six to be able to connect.

Richie Allen then saw his through pass well cut out by the Bolton defence as Brig attempted to draw level.

Wanderers, however, made it two on the stroke of half-time, Ali Crawford’s layoff finding Doyle who curled the ball into the top right corner.

Brig went into the interval 2-0 down, and introduced Danny Forbes into the action for the second half, with a number of Academy players being brought on later in the game.

Ian Evatt’s Wanderers fielded a completely different XI in the second half, and added a third six minutes into the second half when Muhammadu Faal placed the ball in off the post.

It was four when a trialist was first to a rebound after an excellent initial save from Roccia, before then adding his second with a strike into the bottom corner.

Dennis Politic made it six from the penalty spot, before Rowan Roache came close to a consolation goal for Brig when he hit a free kick over the bar.

Bolton scored the final goal of the game in stoppage time, Liam Gordon converting Alex Baptiste’s cross from close range.

Brig are next scheduled to be in action on Tuesday, when they travel to Skelmersdale. The game will again be played behind closed doors, with no fans admitted.
