Fowler’s 33rd minute strike handed Brig a half time advantage, as Brig had the better of the first half overall.
But Liam Hearn equalised for the visitors early in the second half, before Nathan Watson and Courey Grantham strikes meant Basford took all three points back to Nottingham.
Both sides had chances in the early exchanges, with Basford seeing a couple of long range efforts caught by Brig goalkeeper Lloyd Rigby.
Danny Forbes then rounded Basford ‘keeper Kieran Preston, the visiting stopper doing well to retain his composure and block the shot.
Fowler then capped off his first professional start with the opener, diverting the ball past Preston from close range after Basford failed to clear a corner.
Brig went into the break ahead, but the game changed completely over the course of the second half.
Basford looked to put pressure on the Brig backline from the off, Ali Waddecar having to fulfil his defensive duties by blocking a goalbound shot.
Brig continued to have chances, however, with Fowler testing the keeper’s handling from 20 yards.
Captain Matt Lawlor then headed the ball across goal from a corner, but there was a Basford man on the line to head the ball over the bar.
But Basford were beginning to have more of an influence on the game as it continued into the later stages.
And Liam Bateman’s fizzing low cross from the right-hand side was met by Hearn, who diverted the ball past Rigby from 12 yards to bring the visitors level.
Basford then took the lead on 74 minutes when Watson rose highest to flick the ball into the corner from a right sided cross.
With Brig pressing for an equaliser, and Kieran Charnock joining the attack, substitute Grantham broke through the backline in the 94th minute and slotted the ball past Rigby and into the bottom corner to settle the game.
