We are pleased to offer mini and junior rugby to boys and girls from Under 6 to Colts in rugby age groups coincident with school years.
Junior rugby is a mixture of exercise, skills, team work and personal development to bring out the best in children in an enjoyable environment. This is supported by qualified coaches within excellent facilities. The safety of children is of the utmost importance and at all ages we assess each child on their ability before they are allowed to play in matches.
We follow the RFU continuum principles so that as children get older they move away from non-contact tag rugby in to a contact game, so that by the time they finish in the Colts they are ready to progress to the 15 a side adult game.
We run training sessions and arrange home and away matches with other clubs on a Sunday morning, from September to April.
At Under 14 (School Year 9) children play games and move to the introduction of contact to include some of the more familiar aspects of the 15 man game such as Rucking, Mauling and Scrums, although these are all very much cut down (2 man rucks and mauls only) and controlled appropriately, player safety is as always paramount.
I believe Rugby is a wonderful team sport with social and life values that can last you a lifetime. Through physical engagement players develop decision making skills and individual responsibility for themselves and others.
If you would like your child to give rugby a try then please contact a coach in the appropriate age group or come down to one of the training sessions and see for your self.
We recognise rugby is not for everyone, so children are welcome to try out a couple of training sessions before they are asked to join the club. To play in games children must be a member of the club.
We look forward to welcoming you to Bancroft RFC.
