In a tense, close game Bancroft produced a hard earned 13 – 10 victory to maintain their unbeaten run for the start of the season.
Both teams gave everything as they tested each other’s defence time and again.
The game started at a fast pace but neither side could find the opportunity to create the gap to score. Bancroft forwards took the game to Basildon who gave as much in return.
Both sets of backs were willing to run with the ball but the tackling from both sides was up to the task.
Bancroft’s forwards provided good ball and after working through several phases created openings which gave Adam Winchester an opportunity to score and Ayo Akinfenwa popped up on the wing to outstrip the cover defence for Bancroft’s other try.
Basildon scored two tries and the game could have gone either way.
Bancroft kept their discipline when under intense pressure whereas Basildon infringed and an Adam Capon penalty gave Bancroft the edge and the winning points.
