The start of the league season got underway with the 1’s hosting Thames in some very hot conditions on a very hard pitch down at the club house. The game got underway as expected with two very physical sides going toe to toe for the opening 20 minutes but it was Bancroft that drew first blood with Daniel James kicking a penalty in front of the posts. After that bancroft seemed to start getting the better of the opposition with their slick passing which resulted in two tries being scored within two minutes, a cricket score was on the cards.
However Bancroft didn’t turn the screw and allowed themselves to be sucked into an arm wrestle for the remainder of the half and well into the second.
The next score came Thames way where some good work from their forwards allowed the winger to exploit the overlap in the corner.
Thankfully this seemed to wake Bancroft up who went back to the blueprint of moving the ball around with some tidy set piece and quick hands which had the opposition chasing their tales, if not for a few criminal handling errors there could have been a few more tries taken from the game however it was last seasons top try scorer George Hatt who had the final say
Final score Bancroft 24-5 Thames
