Don't know who won the toss and don't care! Bare batted first in blistering sunshine with a pull out of the hat team and a debut for 14 year old Jack Wills aka J.Copsey! Sharman went in his usual 4 and out fashion before Oz (28) tried to keep the momentum going but found it tough with good opening spells from the BLS openers. Cole (2-20) then got in on the act as small partnerships formed but again Bare just couldn't get going. Cook (12) and Albon (20) got starts but faltered tempted by the loopy spinners of Pearce (3-45) with keeper Medcalf getting 4 victims, 2 of which stumped, 1 run out and a caught behind! Cup captain Nev (12) and a patient and mature 7 from Copsey moved Bare past 100 but then were both removed. Smith was solid remaining unbeaten all weekend scoring 10 not out but the return of Dyson (3-12) slowed the innings down and supported by Hartin (1-35) bowled Bare out in the last over for 139. A slightly below average score for the wicket but credit to the young fielders and a stunning catch to remove Oz from Anderton.
An excellent spread with carrot in a carrot cake that were sourced a long distance last night especially for the visitors meant that it was game on. 2 early wickets, one of which for Masterman (1-14), put Bare in the ascendency but Hartin (31) and Dyson (25) seemed to be turning the game around until Copsey (1-28) removed the BLS captain with one of 3 catches for Drews dad! Cole (24) seemed again to be pushing BLS on to victory but the return of Oz (1-14) paid off and pace and bounce form Coldplays lead singers brother (2-21) meant the game was in the balance again. G.Medcalf (16) steadied the ship and had BLS 130-6, just 10 away from victory until a devastating 2nd spell from Albon (4-21) meant that on the penultimate ball of the innings, Bare leaped over the line by 1 run. They will face Milnthorpe in the next round on Sunday 4th June with Ambleside up next at home for the Bare lads. An excellent game played in great spirits, even for a Sunday cup game. Now to drown my sorrows in this and the fact Scunny lost to Millwall :-(
