Before kick-off a minute’s silence was held in honour of ‘Side’s former U17 player Andrew Balfour, who passed away following a battle with Leukaemia.
After a bright start by both sides, ‘Side took the lead on 24 minutes with winger Kai Heather producing a fine lob over Bengal keeper Denzel Kobia.
In similar style Jason Fontaine almost doubled the lead shortly after but his attempt only found the side-netting.
Oscar Mendes was looking dangerous for Bengal and the forward saw a header and shot go wide shortly before the interval. ‘Side’s last chance of the half fell to defender Scott Mitchell but he could only head wide from Paul Wright’s free-kick.
After starting the second-half well, Bengal equalised on 63 minutes when Mendes lobbed ‘Side keeper Tyler McCarthy to level the scores.
Nine minutes later ‘Side were 2-1 behind, with a familiar face to putting Bengal in front. Lewis Francis, who scored key goals for the Sky Blues during Matt Frew’s time in charge, doing well to drive home a shot from the edge of the box past McCarthy in goal.
Yaya Embalo added a third for Bengal with a fine finish on 83 minutes to seal the win for the visitors.
‘Side are back in action on Easter Friday when they host London Bari at Cricklefields. Kick-off for that match is at 7:45pm.
