Barkingside’s winless run continued as they fell to a 3-2 defeat to high-flying Clapton, with the winning goal coming deep into second-half injury time.

Despite Clapton dominating the first-half, ‘Side went into the break ahead following Michael Ogboin’s neat finish on 36 minutes. It was the forward’s 11th strike of the season, and one which completed a fine team move.

However Clapton were level on 52 minutes when Kai Bichard scored after good work from Jeffrey Cobbiah.

Jon Fowell’s side soon took control. Shortly after the hosts won a penalty but Joe Simmons making his debut in goal for ‘Side kept out Steven Sardinha’s spot-kick. However Clapton soon won another penalty on 62 minutes, which this time was dispatched by Sardinha.

‘Side looked like they had earned a point when a fantastic free-kick from ex-Tons player James Briggs curled in on 76 minutes. However Cobbiah struck a winner for the hosts deep into injury-time.

The result see’s ‘Side remain in 15th in the league table. ‘Side are back in action on Saturday when they face mid-table West Essex at Maysbrook Park. Kick-off for that match is at 3pm.

‘Side: Joe Simmons, Akil Clarke (Ben Clarke), Ricardo Bailey, David Etcheri, Euan Taylor-Reid, Paul Shave, Roddy Lemba, James Briggs, Michael Ogboin, Jerome Martelli (Bradley Joseph), Mattheus Santos.
