Side Lose To Motormen
Barkingside lost 2-1 to Redbridge as a late goal from former striker Calvin Poku won the game for the visitors.
The first chance of the match fell to Redbridge’s Brian Moses, who previously played for ‘Side, but the forward’s shot from distance was comfortably saved by keeper Will Hunt in goal.
Jason Fontaine then put in a brilliant corner into the box. It was a cross that just needed the finishing touch to be put on it to get a goal, but the ball somehow missed everyone in the area.
Michael Ogboin then was put through for ‘Side only for Lewis Greene in goal to deny him, before Moses crashed an effort against the bar after a well-worked run.
The final chance of an exhilarating half fell to Calvin Poku. The forward - who enjoyed a fine spell with ‘Side in recent years – was looking a threat for the visitors and he saw a fine strike from 25 yards go narrowly wide of the post.
Ricky Eaton’s Redbridge took the lead on 55 minutes. After Hunt had tipped a Moses shot wide, from the resulting corner Shaun Harris headed home after an initial header was saved.
Hunt was having a great game for ‘Side and his duel with Moses continued, as another save from the keeper prevented the winger making it 2-0 for the visitors.
Michael Walther’s men were level on 66 minutes. Forward Ogboin being in the right place at the right time, to slot home substitute Tony Cookey’s mishit shot to equalise. It was Ogboin’s fifth goal of the season.
Chances were coming think and fast now. Cookey forced a save from Redbridge stopper Greene before Courtney Homans, off the bench for the visitors, blazed over the bar.
On 83 minutes, Redbridge took the lead in somewhat fortunate circumstances when a ‘Side defender’s clearance struck Poku in the torso with the ball creeping in at the near post past Hunt.
Sadly there wasn’t enough time for ‘Side to get an equaliser as the visitors held on for the three points.
