Late Drama As 'Side Lose To Lodge

Barkingisde lost 3-2 at home to Wadham Lodge in a thrilling game under lights at Cricklefields on Monday night.

'Side started the game well, with Mattheus Santos going close early on, as his shot struck a defender before being hacked away yards from the line.

The early pressure told for Michael Walther's men and they deservedly went ahead on 13 minutes. Following good play by Mattheus Santos and Michael Ogboin, Roddy Lemba was on hand to finish inside the area. It was the forward's 12th goal of the season in 18 appearances for the club.

Lemba shortly almost grabbed a second, but he could only strike the bar bar from a tight angle at the back-post after Lodge couldn't deal with a corner. The forward couldn't be blamed for not seeing this effort go in, due to the congestion in the box.

Lodge then equalised through Paul Oshin on 38 minutes. The midfielder was picked out in the box, and after a smart turn he struck a powerful finish into the net. Toby Smith in goal for ‘Side stood no chance.

The visitors almost went into half-time 2-1 ahead but Oshin’s glancing header across goal from a long Sherwin Stanley throw-in, narrowly went wide of goal, ensuring the scores were level at the break.

After the restart ‘Side came out of the blocks well, with Ogboin seeing a lobbed effort blocked by Stefan Rozar in goal for Lodge.

Jason Ngandu’s visitors would take the lead on the hour-mark when Stefan Wright finished well at the back post, after being picked out by Stanley.

Lemba headed a chance wide for ‘Side, who had to rely on a clearance of the line to prevent Lodge going 3-1 up. Ashley Banks somehow seeing his effort blocked after Smith failed to hold onto a free-kick.

Not long after that Stanley wasted a great chance to wrap up the game for Lodge, but the experienced forward fired a one-on-one chance wide.

With two minutes remaining ‘Side equalised. A free-kick deep from their own-half was flicked on in the area for Raphael Duyile to head home. It was the midfielder’s first goal of the season and a fine way to mark his first appearance since October.

However Lodge stuck back in injury-time to win the game, when a clearance by a defender struck substitute Rujorn Tuit. The forward still had a lot to do, but he casually made his way into the box before striking a shot into the top near-hand corner of the net.

The result keeps 'Side firmly in the relegation-fight in 16th place, just two points ahead of Lodge, who moved up to 20th following last night's game.

‘Side are next in action on Saturday when they face Stansted away. Kick-off for that match is at 3pm.
