Side Lose On Non League Day

Barkingside fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Stansted on Non League Day at Cricklefields.

'Side started the game well against second-placed Stansted but fell behind on 25 minutes when Connor Hammond scored a penalty for Paul Pittuck and Marc Benterman's high-flyers.

The visitors were then reduced to ten men when Jack Folan was sent-off on 32 minutes, for kicking the corner-flag. It was a strange decision, which annoyed Stansted's players and staff - but one which 'Side had to take full advantage of.

'Side after a fine second-half display equalised on 74 minutes through Warren Kayembe. It was the forward's first goal for the club and one that looked to have earned the Sky Blues a much-needed point.

Crulley though Stansted would grab the win with just four minutes remaining when Moses Carvelio's shot struck a bobble in the Cricklefields pitch. This made the shot deceive past Mikel Breckenridge in goal to give Stansted the victory.

The result leaves 'Side five points off 19th placed Tower Hamlets. Stansted with the win moved to the top of the league on goal-difference, above Hullbridge who had drawn 2-2 at home with Leyton.

Michael Walther's men are back in action on Wednesday night when they face Walthamstow away from home. Kick-off at Wadham Lodge for that match is at 7:45pm.

Subs Not Used: Shaiquan Maisara, Eben-Ezer Mbona
