Barkingside's poor start to the season continued as they fell to a 4-0 defeat away to Walthamstow at Wadham Lodge.

The match started around 20 minutes late due to problems on the Victoria Line. Then before kick-off it became obvious that both sides would have to play with one of the worst kit clashes off all time with 'Side's purple away kit clashing with the host's dark blue strip.

'Side started well and struck the post after three minutes, with Jake Kenneally seeing a powerful strike hit the woodwork, following a well-worked corner regime.

'Stow then took control as James Peagram and Craig Pope both headed opportunities wide. Not long after Matthew Brinklow struck the woodwork with a rasping drive, following good work from the energetic Samrai Gebrai.

Lee Flynn saw a free-kick cleared off the line by Calvin Petrie, who played for Stags previously. Side though were running into a brick-wall down the other end with Chris Clark (a former Sky Blues stalwart) preventing them with some fine one-on-ones.

After a goalless first period, Walthamstow took the lead on 63 minutes when Gebrai powerfully headed in a Rheo Josephs cross. Thirteen minutes later it was 2-0 as the forward scoring again, lashing the ball in off the bar after James Peagram had missed an effort.

Ryan Maxwell's side were in full control and sealed the three points with two further goals. First substitute Christian Owusu made it 3-0 with a crisp finish, following good work by Gebrai, before Brinklow scored in added-time with a shot from the edge of the box.

Michael Walther's men remain five points off 19th placed Tower Hamlets, at the bottom of the table. They are next in action on Saturday away to Hoddesdon Town. That match at Lowfields kicks-off at 3pm.
