Defeat At Wivenhoe

Hosts Wivenhoe came right out of the blocks and could have taken the lead inside the opening five minutes, but for Tom Ashworth's loose strike from the box hitting the woodwork.

Franco Zabotti's Sky Blues then had a golden opportunity to take the lead, when after ten minutes they were awarded a penalty. Uncharacteristically forward James Peagram (who had scored two penalties alreadynthis season) blasted his spot-kick over, with the ball just clipping the top of the bar much to Wivenhoe's joy.

Within eight minutes Wivenhoe took the lead. Good work by George Hart on the right saw the forward saw a shot blocked. The loose ball fell perfectly for Billy Coe who struck a well-timed shot home. 'Side keeper Duncan Smith standing no chance with the strike.

Wivenhoe then doubled the lead on 33 minutes with Hart heading in from close-range after a teasing ball into the area from Alex Holder.

Going into the break 2-0 down, 'Side needed to start the second-half well. New signing Malik Donaldson was brought on for Grant Frances and nine minutes after being introduced, the substitute scored.

Pouncing on an appaling misplaced pass from Wivenhoe keeper George-Arran Rae, the forward kept his composure one-on-one to score.

After that 'Side tried their best to get on level terms but despite several chances (including an open goal miss) failed to get an equaliser. Goalkeeper Rae made up for his error with a couple of good saves, including one shot he tipped onto the post.

The defeat leaves 'Side in 11th place in the league, with hosts Wivenhoe moving up to sixth.

'Side are next in action at home to Coggeshall United at Cricklefields on Saturday August 28th. Kick-off fir that match is at 3pm.
