John Belsey who passed away tragically on 12th September, served a number of roles at the club and was most recently our Assistant Secretary. In the week leading to the game, Chairman Jimmy Flanagan announced that the match would be dedicated to the life amd memory of John.
He no doubt would have been pleased with the effort and performance the Sky Blues showed, on what was an emotional afternoon for the hosts at Cricklefields.
After a goalless first-half, midfielder Grant Frances put 'Side ahead on 70 minutes. It was a fitting time for Frances to grab his first goal of the campaign, only 14 minutes after coming on for the hard-working Patrick Hoy.
Six minutes later, Franco Zabotti's men doubled the lead to seal victory. Unsurprisingly it was James Peagram who scored 'Side's second, grabbing his 11th of a brilliant season so far to put the hosts fully in control.
In conclusion it was a great win for 'Side and another positive was the return of Dan Jones, making his first appearance for the club since our loss to Frenford in September 28th 2020. All of 'Side's fans will hope his experience and know-how can be vital for the club for the rest of the season.
'Side are next in action when tney host Cornard United at Cricklefields on Saturday 16th September. Kick-off for that match is at 3pm.
