Fantastic Win Over Aveley

Fantastic Win Over Aveley

Barkingside totally belied their lowly position yesterday as they dominated the game against Aveley from start to finish. The only real surprise last night was that ‘Side only scored twice last night.

Some of the football Matt Frew’s side played at times was exquisite and the whole team was up for the game right from the off. Captain Matt Gulfer put the Sky Blues ahead in the 14th minute from a sensational curling free-kick. ‘Side went close to adding to their score but were delighted with their half-time lead.

An injury to right-back Dan Hayes forced Burgs to reshuffle his line-up at half-time. Calvin Poku came on for Hayes, who has been superb lately. Richard Oxby took over at right-back with Calvin slotting up well into our attack. Calvin sealed our win deep into injury-time with an absolute corker of a goal, when he cut in from the right before curling an unstoppable shot past Stevie Sutton in goal.

The goal and the win was no more than ‘Side deserved. Manager Matt Frew’s leap for joy at the final whistle summed up what the victory meant to the club. ‘Side are next back in action on Saturday when we host Tilbury at the Oakside. Kick-Off’s at 3pm and we’d love to have as many fans as possible to cheer on the lads.
