Brilliant day had by all at Shrewsbury Town FC!

£1605 raised for Pancreatic Cancer Action in honor of 'one of our own'

Saturday 4th May is known to some as Star Wars Day. We have our very own little ‘Storm Trooper’ in our playing ranks in the shape of Adam Lindsay! However, Saturday 4th May 2024, past and present players from the club, along with friends and family ‘trooped’ their way to Shrewsbury Town Football Club to celebrate the life of Sharon Bridget Henley and to raise awareness for Pancreatic Cancer Action.

There was the small matter of a football game to get through, whereby AFC White Horse took on a Donny Shinn XI made up of his close friends. Goals from James Turley, a double from Adam Lindsay and a four from Liam Brookes saw AFC White Horse march to a 7.2 victory, with Tom Sailsbury and Shane Bevan replying for the home team. We had banners, balloons, flags, posters to promote the game. We even had the very special ‘Barry Jones Memorial Trophy’ to play for which was donated by Luke Jones to honor his late grandad.

The result, the performance, the outcome was not the most important thing here, however. This was no Sunday morning where 3 points were available which in the grand scheme of things now, feels irrelevant. The important thing was that match attracted what felt like a 100 people to the stadium, the game made friends come together, and it made two teams come together to raise a staggering £1605 for the chosen charity.

A raffle consisting of 20 plus prizes was donated, cakes made by our very own WAG Amy and a huge amount generosity made all this happen in such a short space of time which everyone should be proud of.

There is a famous Muhammad Ali saying which goes 'Friendship is the hardest thing in the world to explain. It’s not something you learn in school. But if you haven’t learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven’t learned anything’.

Saturday. Everyone knew the meaning of friendship that's for sure!

Well done to all involved and thank you.
