Captain Andy Ford won the toss and chose to bat leaving Moseley to field in the scorching heat. Jon Dovey and Mark Hooper opened the batting facing opening bowlers Fred Eburah and Jagtar Dulai. Eburah was the more dangerous of the two and it was he who made the first breakthrough when he had Hooper caught at square leg by Chief Narotra for 4. Dovey was joined by Alex Hepburn and this pair put on 42 including some fine boundaries – the pick of which was a giant six from Dovey over cow corner off Dulai. Dovey unfortunately mishit one to be caught by Kishen Patel at mid-on for 24 to give Eburah his second wicket.
With the Green on 51 for 2 in the 10th over Hepburn and new batsman Dannie Rees kept up a good run rate – combining singles and boundaries well. The 100 came up in the 19th over with a signature late cut for 4 from Rees. Rees got to his half century first off just 54 balls – one of 3 fours he hit off Ali Awan’s fifth and final over. In the 28th over Hepburn also reached 50 and the Green total passed 150. With what turned out to be an inspired bowling change Moseley brought on Usman Shabir, who claimed two wickets in this first over. Rees was given out caught by Patel diving forward at point for 66 and Hepburn was stumped by keeper Abdullah Awan also for 66.
The Green innings stalled slightly as Andy Ford and particularly Elliot Hennessy found it difficult against some negative leg side bowling. Usman Awan bowled Hennessy for 9 to bring Ash Brewer to the crease with the score on 215 for 5 in the 44th over. He and Ford picked up the pace again keen to set a target near 300. Brewer and Ford took boundaries of Hafeez, Usman Awan and the returning Eburah, the 250 came up in the 50th over as Ford was dropped and Moseley conceded an overthrow. Ford had reached a virtually run-a-ball 44 when he caught by Patel at deep cover off Eburah. Graeme Cessford and Brewer took the score to 289 for 6 including 14 off the last over and Brewer finished 45 not out.
Moseley openers set off at a rapid pace with Usman Shabir taking 19 off Cessford’s first over. Liam Smith at the other end put real pressure on Asim Shoaib. Shabir tried to attack Smith’s bowling also – hitting 3 boundaries before he nicked one to be caught by Brewer for a quick-fire 34 off 22 balls. Ali Awan came in at 3 and both batsmen struggled to keep up the pace set at the start. Captain Ford brought himself on in the 12 over and this had immediate effect as Ali Awan edged one to keeper Brewer to be dismissed for 6. Jugdip Nandra came and went - run out without facing a ball after a terrible mix up to leave Moseley 57 for 3. This became 61 for 4 in the 17th over as Patel couldn’t cope with Cessford’s pace and edged one to Ford at second slip for 1.
Captain Abdullah Awan joined Asim Shoaib - this pair steadied the ship and had taken the score to 97 when Blair Kingsland made an important breakthrough when Shoaib was caught by Cessford at mid-wicket for 36. Both Ford and Kingsland put the batsmen under a lot of pressure with fine bowling and attacking fields. This paid dividend when Abdullah Awan edged one to Ford at leg slip off Kingsland for 15. Abdul Hafeez and Chief Narotra took advantage of the attacking field to hit a number of boundaries as the Green chased the last 4 wickets. The Moseley batsmen found Ford difficult to play and he got his reward with back to back wicket maidens. First he trapped Narotra lbw for 14 then had Usman Awan caught by Hooper at leg slip for 2. Ford rotated the bowling in an attempt to dislodge the stubborn Hafeez. Smith returned to the attack and the change of pace worked as Hafeez edged one to Brewer – his 45 including 10 fours. BGCC tried everything – but more changes of bowling and fielders surrounding the bat couldn’t dislodge the final pair of Fred Eburah (12) and Jagtar Dulai (19). Frustratingly Moseley were 202 for 9 at close of play to claim 7 points. The Green’s 18 points and 90 points in 4 games see them rise to 4th in the table.
