The 3rd XI made it 5 wins in a row by beating a strong Stourport side in a hard fought and tense game on Saturday.

Losing the toss the Green were asked to bat on a lively wicket with a bit of bounce but good carry. The opening pairing of Chris Hill and Roger Thompson punished any wayward bowling and reached the 100 mark after just 15 overs. They pushed total to 184 before Hill was trapped lbw for an excellent 76 (15x4s). Thompson was joined by Lewis Regan and continued to dominate the bowling with plenty of aggressive hitting before finally taking on one shot too many to finish with a magnificent 102 (15x4s, 3x6s). Regan went on to compile a well-paced 35 and with the help of the middle order got the Green to 250-5 off their 40 overs.

Due to a short rain interruption Stourport had a revised target of 235 from 35 overs. They got off to a good start with their opening batsmen seizing on any short or wayward bowling. Skipper Mark Haffield opted to bring on U13 spinner Ben Clarke and this payed off when he bowled their dominant opener for a very quick 75. Shortly after, U14 Barnaby Tripp then bowled the other opener and the Green were then able to gain some control of the game. The hosts were never out of the game though and with reduced bowling options it was down to the 3 youngsters of Clarke, Tripp and the other U14, Owen Gregory, to continue to restrict the run-rate on a drying outfield with short boundaries. They held their nerve superbly and took wickets steadily, with Stourport eventually finishing 14 runs short in 221-9. Tripp finished with 3-59, Clarke 2-24 and Gregory 2-38. Although a few tough catches went down, Thompson, Tripp (2), Gregory and debutant Jake Betteridge all held on to some decent ones in an energetic and tidy fielding display. The thirds now sit top of the table with one game left to play.
