Last nights match against Cobham A was our re-arranged fixture from before xmas.
We got there early and started a good warm up, got focussed before the match which i really think helped us stay focussed.
We knew the aim of the game tonight after a disappointing match last satruday, we stayed calm and ready to do the job.
We took an early lead to go 3-0 up but Cobham came back at us with their accurate through court balls, and we came off 13-10 after the first quarter.
Second quarter, shots were going in accurately and we started to get our passes more solid with back up from defence being crucial.
25-19 at half time.
Cobham had 10 players whilst we had a flat 7 so we knew we would have to try to reserve some energy somehow. Their change in WD as well counteracted our speed in attack and they made a few more interceptions than we liked but we drew the third, remaining up by 6 going into the last quarter.
The last quarter started well but within 5 minutes, we were frantic and gave away far too much ball. With 4 minutes to go, Cobham had pulled it back to within 2 goals but we were not ready to give up without a fight. With strong defence throughout the court, we turned the ball back over time after time, we had possession in our minds and patiently played the ball around for the last few minutes, we took the ball to goal and intercepted a centre pass taking a lead of 5 goals and winning 45-40.
We played really well as a team and a much improved performance from Saturday - well done ladies!
well deserved player of the match for Gemma for her constant driving and feeds edge of circle and oppo POM to Lauren for accurate movement and shooting. We can gain consistency over the next few weeks now in squad and hope to keep some positive results going.
