Riversiders start campaign with victory

Allcock and Dunn seal all three points
A new look Barrow Town side secured all three points against a dogged Shirebrook Town on Saturday afternoon.
After a summer of upheaval, a completely new sixteen man squad arrived at Riverside Park for their first competitive game against a Shirebrook side that had been laterally transferred from the NCEFL over the summer. With a number of players having only put pen to paper for the Club earlier this week there were some fears about how fluent the home side may be in their opening fixtures, but any early nerves were soon settled with a strike by debutant forward Harry Allcock in only the third minute.
Despite the early goal, the home side struggled to play the passing game demanded by the management against a hard working opposition and reached the interval with just a narrow one goal advantage. However if the Riversiders made a fast start in the first half, it was nothing in comparison to the start they made to the second when new recruit Henry Dunn (pictured in action for previous club Deeping Rangers) doubled their advantage just 14 seconds in to the half.
Despite numerous good chances to further extend their lead, the Riversiders were wasteful in front of goal, but all three points were secured just after the hour mark when ALLCOCK grabbed his second of the afternoon.
Both sides seem pleased to hear the final whistle on a warm afternoon, and both have seven days before they are back in action - the Riversiders welcoming Clipstone FC to Riverside Park next Saturday (3pm kick off).
