Barry Town Utd Ladies went into their latest league fixture looking to build on their recent good form that has seen them reach the South Wales FA Cup Final and maintain their promotion challenge as they look to keep pace with current leaders Aberystwyth Town.
Despite this being a home game, Barry played the match at Newport Velodrome 3G due to unavailability of Jenner Park but this didn’t deter the Dragons from making a quick start that saw them take control of the game in the early stages.
Cheslea Deacon, who has been in excellent form recently opened the deadlock after just three minutes to give Barry the lead and top scorer Sian Rees netted twice in the space of 6 minutes to give Barry a 3-0 lead after just 15 minutes.
Credit must go to Llangyfelach who kept battling and showed a great attitude despite starting the game with 9 players which went to 10 after a short while.
As expected under the circumstances, Barry were dominating the game and racked up another 5 goals before half time. Defender Holly Vowles scored just after the half hour mark with Sian Rees netting a minute later to complete her hat-trick. Courtney Martin-Luce continued her recent goal scoring form with a third goal in as many games for the energetic wing back. Deacon scored her second on 42 minutes before Emily Bayliss notched her first of the afternoon on 42 minutes.
With the result not in doubt, Barry continued to search for more goals and their dominance provided many scoring opportunities. Bayliss grabbed her second of the game on 50 minutes but the visitors were to get reward for their efforts with a goal on 53 minutes. With windy conditions making it difficult for both sides, Barry attempted to play out from the back from the goalkeeper thrown but the wind caught the ball which landed to the opposition striker who struck a first time shot into the net.
Bayliss was to grab her hat-trick on 57 minutes making her tally 8 goals in just 3 games as a Barry player before Rees notched her fourth on 63 minutes. The final goal of the game saw an own goal for Barry later in the second half with game finishing a comfortable 12-1 win for the home side.
Barry will now play the reverse fixture away to Llangyfelach on Sunday 10th March.
