The Wales Under 15 Girls National Team headed out to Spain over the last week to compete in the 2019 Bob Docherty Home Nations Tournament which was held in Salou consisting of Wales, England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar.
The young Dragons, led by Team Manager Matthew Clement has shown great progress over the last 12 months and went into the tournament in great spirits.
The squad included four Barry Town Utd Players, Zoe Smith, Olivia Barnett, Ella Hilliard and Phoebie Poole who were to all play a part in the 3 matches that Wales completed at the event.
First up was a mouth watering tie against England and Wales went behind early on before recovering with two quick goals to end up with a 2-1 victory and make the perfect start to their campaign.
Next up was a fixture against Gibraltar who are new additions to the home nations tournament in 2019. The Dragons put in another good performance winning 4-1 meaning they would go on to top their group and reach the final for the second time in three years following their 2017 cup success.
In the final they would take on Northern Ireland and it was to be a thrilling finale. Wales once again recovered from a 1-0 deficit at half time to make it 2-2 at the full time whistle. Unfortunately the Welsh side were edged out in a penalty shootout but that should not take away the fantastic performance the whole squad put in over the three days.
Well done to all the players, coaching staff involved.
