Not a great weekend for our three teams on the weekend as both 1sts and 2nds crash to heavy defeats while Fentys troops fall short against Sully. Having played Creigiau first up we knew it would tough and as it rained heavily on the way there was a time it looked in doubt but thankfully we managed to get a 39 over game in. Hassett actually won a decent toss and we put them in. As a rule we bowled ok although wides were again an issue, and despite missing their best batsman they reached a very respectable 182 for 4 with the veteran Martin Powell adding a superb 40 not out of 26 balls at the end of the innings.
Despite Rob taking the opening bowler for 12 in the first over we were never ever in the hunt and in fact at one time we were looking at a total humiliation at 78 for 8 but we made it to 142 all out. The positives were Hornby looking like his old self and really sticking it out while Jimmy continued his good form with the bat and added a sound bowling spell as well. Scully very similar but the biggest plus was seeing our new boy Matthew Vaughan looking very adept with the willow to go alongside his bowling. If we can manage to get him on the park with Danie and Rhodri plus the tightness of Aled and Scully plus the plenty of other options such as Will then we do have a very good looking attack but the batters need to do their bit too.
The 2nds were also never in the hunt chasing down 226 with only Damo and the captain Sawyer passing double figures. Alun Wade is probably bowling the best he has ever done and finished with 2 for 24 from his 8. Sadly Satya has damaged his finger and wont be available for two weeks and his superb fielding will be missed.
On Sunday we welcomed our closest neighbours Sully with Dave and Donny both taking the field for them as did Fordy to help them out. It looked like we would be chasing a huge score at one point as Tarv was going great guns but an absolutely brilliant throw from Captain Fenty The Countdown Kingfor a one stump run out (Sooty was doing work on the ground) meant we were back in the game. Blunders (who by the way when you see him up close is a fantastic cricketer) will send a match report soon but Ram was again impressive with both bat and ball. Tim Bowker could have been some cricketer had he made his debut for us before the age of 59 and also did plenty with ball and bat. Our new man Sudhee is also an excellent cricketer and sadly was let down by the number 11 getting stuck in the wrong position and playing a rubbish shot or we may have won the game. Also big thanks to Fenty for captaining us brilliantly so we all had a decent game. Sorry to Sam Brooks but I had to.....and thanks to George for lending me his bat and putting the score on Play-Cricket and Siva for helping us out again.
This weekend we both have Monkswood and although the 1sts beat them on week 2 they had a fantastic result last week against Monmouth and if Tim Probert is playing will have a better bowling attack than that day. However at home we will be confident of winning again. The 2nds were beaten easily that day but will no doubt have a strong side out on Saturday as they head up there.
Finally on Sunday we make the trip to Whitminster for a nice road trip where Emma can share a car with Blunders and Fordy and I for one am looking forward to it. Whisper it quietly but the weather looks OK for the weekend although Covers maybe needed Friday and overnight into Saturday. Speaking of which Jimmy has been promised they will be here this week but don't hold your breath.
Finally as availability has been strong, if you are not picked on a Saturday then I will do my utter best to get you in on Sunday and if not will hope to sort something out for you in future weeks and usually availability only stays really strong for a while. Any moans then please come to me first as the skippers have enough on their plate with their baby and soon to be baby.
See you all soon
