Barton Badgers 1 - 0 Leek Badgers A

Barton Badgers knew that this game against Leek Badgers A was going to be a tough one.

The game started well with Barton in control of the game through the mother and daughter partnership of Keeley and Lou Brodrick and father and son partnership of Jack and Dave Hawksworth in the defence giving good passes to the Barton midfield. The midfield were put under a little pressure from the skillful Leek midfield players but once the team had settled it was Barton that had the majority of the pressure and all it needed was for the Barton attack to put the ball into the net.

Good play by Keeley Brodrick, Luke Ansell and James Dain down the left of the pitch started to release Frost and Wain into the Leek half of the pitch to put the ball into the path of Gibson and McCombe, resulting in a series of penalty corners for Barton. However good goal keeping made sure that the Leek defence was not breached. The first half finished in much the same pattern of play with the half time score being 0 - 0.

The second half saw Leek come out much more determined and aggressive which resulted in the Barton defence having more to do and working much harder. The game started to open up and play was starting to be very end to end with both defences playing well and the midfield players having to track up and down the pitch constantly. Barton still showed their attacking skills, winning further penalty corners, but half way through the second half it was an open play attack through Vipond, Gibson and McCombe that resulted in Alex Gibson crashing the ball home to give Barton the lead. Barton, either tired or complacent, went on the defensive and Leek had a number of penalty corners awarded to them, with only the fine saves from Barton keeper Dan Bond keeping the ball out. The final 10 minutes of the game saw much of the same end to end play with penalty corners at both ends going wide of the post, but Barton held on to register a fine 1-0 victory.
