Buxton Badgers 4 - 2 Barton Badgers Nov 23 2013

After not having a game last weekend Barton travelled to Buxton with a very young inexperienced side with new team members Isobel Harrison and Sam Kersey coming into the squad.

Buxton took control at the start forcing Barton into some last ditch defending from Harry Harrison and Katie Grice. Buxton opened the scoring when a misplaced pass went straight to the Buxton centre forward who placed the ball into the net past goalkeeper Joyce. As the half went on Barton started to find their feet and put pressure on Buxton, forcing errors from their players. Flavell and Mellor, the new forward pairing, went close to scoring, but another error in the Barton defence let Buxton in again for their second goal. As half time approached Flavell pinched the ball off a Buxton defender and dribbled into the D to fire the ball into the goal.

Barton came out with renewed confidence in the second half and the pairing of Lucy d’Angibau and Isobel Harrison worked well to get the ball into the opponents half. With Barton pushing for an equaliser once again their defence was caught and Buxton scored their third goal. Barton quickly answered with a goal from Mellor when good passing from Moreau and Flavell put Mellor in position to score.
The young Barton side started to tire towards the end of the half and the older, more experienced Buxton team worked well to score the fourth goal.

Team Manager Phil Welch commented, “This was a great performance from a young side with some players never playing a full size game before today. These players have a lot to learn but with our Junior programme they should come along into good young players. Their determination certainly showed through in this game."
