Barton Badgers 1 - 7 Coalville Badgers

Barton hosted Coalville still with the image of the first meeting in their mind and rightly so, for Coalville were just as good this game.
Barton had a number of players unavailable, including the goalkeeper so the Ladies 2nds goal keeper was drafted in to play and she had plenty to do. The defence of Meadows, Sheriff and Frost, supported by midfielders Broderick, McCombe, Dain and Leung found themselves under constant pressure with little or no chance of getting the ball past the Coalville midfield and within the first 10 minutes Coalville had scored two goals. Barton kept working and good play from Chell, Dain and McCombe saw the forwards released but again there was no way through the Coalville midfield and defence. A series of short corners to Coalville saw two more excellent goals scored to make the score 4 - 0. Barton did not give up and good work from Sherriff and L. Broderick again released the forward line of Lear, K. Broderick and Bloomfield who took the ball into the D to force a short corner which was well saved by the Colville keeper. Coalville were clearly used to playing together as a boys team and moved the ball expertly between each other to work through the Barton defence to force yet more short corners, but these were well saved by the Barton keeper until a ball was pushed wide to the Coalville corner injector who fired the ball home and Coalville capitalised on a tired Barton team just before half time to score their sixth goal of the half.

Half time saw Barton manager Steve Berry make some changes to the Barton formation, taking a forward out and putting an extra midfield player into the mix. This helped Barton to keep Coalville under control and an excellent run forward by Sherriff released Broderick, Leung and Lear, the three girls in the Barton team, to press onto the Coalville defence and score Barton's goal. Barton settled into the game more and more gaining confidence as time went on and good play by Vipond, Leung and Broderick kept releasing the Barton forwards and good work from Dain, Meadows and McCombe saw the ball being worked well down the left side of the pitch. Tactically Barton won the second half of the game and it was only tired legs that finally allowed Coaclville to score their final goal to make the score 1 - 7.
