Barton Badgers kept up the goal scoring spree with goals from Ben Douglas (2), Jo Flavell, Ethan Mellor and Rebecca Sheffield in a well fought contest at Shobnall leisure Complex on Saturday.
The first goal came when good play from Robbie Peters playing his first game for the Badgers linked well with Jamie Stonier-Rice and Dominic Sturman to feed the ball to Ethan Mellor to slot the ball home.
Good passing play between Rachael Slinn, Hattie Buxton and Rebecca Sheffield saw Sheffield using her pace to get past the defence and score the second goal.
Niya Lovatt playing her first game in goals looked comfortable and made some excellent saves and was supported by Nick Potts, again playing his first game for Barton, Nick settled in well at centre defence. But “girl” of the game was Grace Mellor again playing her first game for the club, Grace started off looking quiet but then found her feet and played like an old pro.
The second half saw Ben Douglas start to take control, but not until after Jo Flavell had scored the third goal of the game from a penalty corner Flavell just slipped the ball confidently past the keeper. From the restart Douglas, looking confident, took the ball into the D and struck the ball well to get the fourth goal, and soon after Douglas was there to push the ball in on the far post for his second goal and Barton’s fifth.
Let’s hope that the goals keep coming for next weeks game against Old Wolves – 4pm start at Shobnall Leisure Complex.
