Second 8-goal scoreline of the weekend

Sunday saw Barton travel to face Warwick Uni in a re-arranged league game from two-weeks prior. Mike Parr was unavailable so Nick Tomlinson came into the Barton goal and Jamie Sherfiff came into the Barton backline.

As with the previous day Barton started the game positively, moving the ball round well and looking dangerous whenever they went forward. The Uni side looked to have set up with good structure and were also enjoying spells of possession themselves. It was Barton that took the lead 10 minutes in through Craig Tilke who finished high into the net after the ball was pulled back to him. The Uni side were looking to attack on the break and Tomlinson was called into action several times in the early exchanges to spare Barton's blushes. Barton soon doubled their advantage through a Jacob Foster penalty corner and this seemed to settle them down. 2 soon became 3 as skipper Adam Foster fired across the keeper into the far corner from the top of the D after the Uni defence backed off and Ashley Parr then struck a quick double before half-time to open his account for the season with Elson and Tilke the providers.

The second half was much of the same with Barton being the far superior side and dominating the game for large spells. Adam Foster made the score 6-0 before brother Jacob scored from another penalty corner to make it 7-0. The uni side pulled 2 goals back before the end of the game and Barton had Tomlinson to thank for it perhaps not being more. Skipper Adam Foster rounded off the scoring and his hat-trick converting a penalty stroke after the ball had hit a defender on the line to give a final scoreline of 8-2 to Barton.

16 goals scored and 6 points gained from the weekend means Barton go top of Midlands One. Next Saturday sees them travel to face 2nd placed Rugby - 2pm push-back.
